Direct naast het station, je kunt er dus prima treinend naar toe, zie je al de monumentale voormalige locomotief remise uit 1876 van de Staatsspoorwegen al verschijnen. Waar de remise ooit ruimte bood aan acht locomotieven, verwelkomt coöperatie de Graanrepubliek je nu.
De Graanrepubliek is een plek waar boeren, makers en experts de smaak van het in Groningen geteelde graan weten te perfectioneren tot het beste lokale eten en drinken. Hier wordt onder meer bier gebrouwen, whisky gedestilleerd en pasta en desembrood gemaakt. Bij de Graanrepubliek draait alles om (goede) smaak en dat kun je allemaal proeven, want elke zaterdag is deze prachtige en interessante locatie voor je geopend. Probeer bijvoorbeeld de ‘experience’ rondleiding door het gebouw en maak kennis met de verhalen achter de brouwerij, distilleerderij en bakkerij. Of neem een kijkje in de winkel met lokale delicatessen. En natuurlijk mag je het heerlijke eten dat geserveerd wordt in restaurant ‘het Proeflokaal’ niet missen.
